Edwin: Giggs goal was valid
United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar says he thought Ryan Giggs' quickly-taken free kick was a perfectly good goal.

The Welshman’s opportunism saw him catch Lille goalkeeper Tony Sylva, who was still organising his defensive wall, off guard, allowing Giggs to curl ball into the unguarded far corner.

Van der Sar admitted that goalkeepers rarely suffer the embarrassment of conceding from such a situation. But, despite sympathising with his opposite number, the 36-year-old Dutchman said he was simply happy to be in pole position to qualify for the quarter finals.
