The FA have privately acknowledged for some time that Ferguson has a knack for taking his comments to the wire without quite crossing into actionable territory. Last night former referee and Sportsmail columnist Graham Poll said: 'I'm not surprised and I say that because the FA have a habit of punishing the small clubs and not the big ones. This is just dispiriting for referees. Of course, it is. 'If managers say a referee was rubbish or that he gave a penalty that wasn't the referees haven't got a problem with that. , }/ W9 y. n7 ?9 j2 E3 ?
'But if a manager says “he favoured the other team”, then that is where the integrity of referees is being called into question and it must be defended vigorously. 'This is not about Sir Alex Ferguson. It is about the FA. That is where the problem lies.' By common consent, Webb had an excellent game last weekend and has been praised for his performance — in contrast to the recent display by Mark Clattenburg that led to similar accusations by David Moyes after Everton's defeat to Liverpool. 5 i- J- l' g, T5 T7 EWhile Moyes, too, is expected to be let off even though that file has not been officially closed, the FA had a stronger case against Ferguson — who said Webb 'favoured Arsenal at times' — because the referee could hardly be faulted. - 专业·专注·曼联中文网站% B1 ]0 i2 \) x: P7 x% D
