Wayne Rooney has been named the Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
Rooney collected the award, voted for by fellow professionals, at a gala ceremony in London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday night.
"To win it twice on the run is a great honour and I am delighted with the award," said Wayne.
The 20-year-old United forward was also nominated for the senior player trophy but lost out to Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.
Gerrard believes it is only a matter of time before Rooney wins the senior award.
"Wayne is a fantastic talent," said the Liverpool midfielder. "I am sure it will not be too long before Wayne is sitting exactly where I am now."
Rooney has scored 19 goals this season, but it also his overall contribution to United's play that earned him the accolade.
He beat Reds team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, Tottenham's Aaron Lennon, Charlton's Darren Bent and West Ham's Anton Ferdinand to the honour.
PFA chief Gordon Taylor said: "Wayne Rooney's development under Sir Alex Ferguson has been great to see.
"He has been such a key part of a United side that has won the Carling Cup and, of late, has mounted a belated challenge to Chelsea in the title race.
"For a young man he has got such strength and it is all allied to great skill and perception.
"He is also starting to show a lot more maturity too, which is pleasing to see and bodes well for Manchester United and England."
